Goodbye
Its been one whole year. One whole year since me and some of my friends started that journey with Saya, Haji and the gang. One whole year, waiting everyday for the next episode to come out. And hoping against hope that things will be alright in the end. I was living in denial, telling myself that the end of this beloved series was far off. Even when I saw that the final episode had been posted, it didn't sink in. No more Blood+. No more Saya, Haji.
My friend Rohan asked me what this show meant for me. I could not give a satisfactory answer. I pushed that question aside, saying that I can only figure it out when the show ends. Now, sitting in my chair after having seen the final episode of Blood+, I still dont have an answer. What did this show mean really? I know enough to admit that towards the end, the storytelling became hurried up( although I am willing to acknowledge this grouse is partly because of my wish to see Blood+ being extended into a longer series-but in a way I am glad this show didnt turn into the monster-of-the-week never ending show), and in 2 particular episodes, the animation budget being cut off resulted in some badly animated scenes. The songs were far from perfect. What then made us wait breathlessly for each episode? Was it the incredible story? The great characters? What I could realize though was that this story was better than anything I had seen in any animated show in a long long time. All I know is that when I was down, I looked forward to Blood+. And every time I watched one episode, I was alright(maybe thats just addiction). It was an incredible experience. And saying goodbye to this show is hard. In fact it is harder than I had imagined it would be. The days ahead look a little bleaker.
Special thanks to the subbers who made viewing this possible. And thanks again to Production I.G. for making another great show. So this is it. This is adieu to Saya and the gang. And a sad goodbye to Haji, undoubtedly one of the best characters in an animated serial, if not the best.
